Company HistoryPaper People Clothing was founded by Jennifer Fukushima in 2001. Initially designing handbags and accessories made from reclaimed materials, Fukushima had the vision of a full clothing brand. During her studies in fashion design at Ryerson University, Fukushima phased out handbags and moved into designing apparel.
After learning more about sustainable textiles and design practices, Fukushima decided to incorporate them into her designs. Paper People Clothing is now carried at local, independent boutiques across Canada.
Lifestyle and Brand
Paper People aims for those versatile items that express the wearer yet are appropriate for any occasion. Sweaters and dresses that are perfect attire for the office can also be worn on a fall forest adventure or bike ride to a favourite secluded retreat.
Customers appreciate the one of a kind nature of the reclaimed pieces as well as the eclectic tonal, textural and print variations within each garment. Environmentally conscious pieces from new textiles often incorporate contrast from reclaimed materials or screen printed accents adding a touch of the unique, handmade aesthetic.
Values
Always thinking of waste reduction and the environment we use only reclaimed textile items and environmentally conscious textiles. We produce clothing first, then assemble accessories from off cuts and lastly donate unusable materials to local crafters and artisans. Our goal is to continue designing and producing domestically to offer employment opportunities to people in the Canadian apparel industry and to form business relationships with other small, local, independent businesses whenever possible over larger corporate chains.

The Paper People studio is powered by Bullfrog, an electricity retailer which provides 100% low-impact renewable electricity from wind and water generators. Bullfrog is 100% Canadian owned and operated. For more information on how to become Bullfrog Powered visit: http://www.bullfrogpower.com
